The Spanish opening is one of the most used in modern chess although it is known since the sixteenth century. This opening was introduced by the spanish cleric Ruy López de Segura. Even today it is called Ruy López opening or Spanish opening to the next sequence of moves: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 The Spanish opening is one that is first taught to beginners as it shows the basic concepts of chess openings (occupy or dominate the center and quickly develop the minor pieces, horses and bishops). In addition the Ruy López opening is the most common among the players of great level. There are many variants of this chess opening although the variants with 3 .... a6 are the most played today by the grandmasters and chess world champions. This app shows chess official games in PGN format in which variations are used with 3 .... a6 and in particular: - Closed: Closed variation (games 1 and 2), Chigorin variation (game 3) and Marshall attack (game 4). - Open: Open variation (games 5 and 7) and Howell attack (games 6 and 8). - Exchange: Exchange variation (games 9 and 10) , Gligoric variation (game 11) and Variation Doubly Deferred or DERLD (game 12).
